First of all I apologize if other areas around PA are flooding, I'm not are of it right now....
As most of you may know, many parts of the North east have been hit with non stop rain... It's caused the Susquehanna river to rise to mor flood levels in almost every county surrounding it. Along with causing smaller creeks and such to overflow.
I live in a town called Kingston which is right outside of wilkes-barre. Infact, the towns are seperated by the Susquehanna river. Any way, last night on a bridge about 5 blocks from my house they put up flood gates to complete the levee system. It's been reported all night that it's been leaking on the Wilkes-Barre side.... They've reportedly patched it up.. Now, I've received word it's leaking on the Kingston side.. On top of that a part of the Levee in a town that's literally 5 miles from my house has a crack in it. They've put rocks and sand there to try and hold back the water.....
The levee's in our area were just completed a few short years ago and have never been tested. They were built to withstand 41ft of water, the projected crest is 40.8ft...... But, so many other towns are completely under water because they weren't protected by the Levee's......
I'm writing this blog for 2 reasons. As the threat of loosing our home seems pretty real at this point, I ask all of you to keep all of us in Luzerne County PA as well as all the other counties effected by the floods in your thoughts and prayers... Many people have lost EVERYTHING..... and the second reason is... If you are in a position to help with the clean up, please contact your local red cross to see if they are sending volunteers... Or just drive out to the area on your own and find our local red cross... It is going to take us month's if not a full year to recover from this....
