Hard rock band Hinder tore up the stage at the Newport Music Hall on Tuesday night.
The first opening band, Black Sunshine, is fronted by world-renowned extreme freeskier Matt Reardon. Although the name Black Sunshine was inspired by the White Zombie song, their music is less savage and more mainstream than their namesake. One version of the video for the single Once in My Life features Reardon's amazing skill on the mountains. Their normal line up was curtailed on Tuesday due to family emergencies for two of the band members, but they still managed to bring plenty of energy to their set.
Only two months ago, the next opening band, Canadian rock act My Darkest Days, played their first US show right here at the Newport. They are now taking the country by storm, on a relentless tour schedule and driven by the success of their single Porn Star Dancing. They are much more than raunchy songsters, though. Their set shows the many sides of their musical personality, from the tender Can't Forget You to the elicit f**ked Up Situation, they span the gamut of emotions. Their energy on stage is infectious and even audience members who weren't familiar with their music were shouting "Porn Star Dancing!" by the end of their set. My Darkest Day's highly anticipated debut album is set for release on September 21.
Hinder, perhaps best known in the mainstream for their smash hit Lips of an Angel, is touring to promote their upcoming album, All American Nightmare. The single of the same name is currently getting play on rock stations nationwide. They brought their many hard partying songs to the stage Tuesday night in a thoroughly entertaining set. Lead singer X danced and posed his way through the show in front of their array of colorful back lighting. It felt like a show better suited to a larger stage than the one at the Newport, filling the hall with light and sound. The biggest crowd sing-a-long came with Get Stoned, a song that X stated was about smoking marijuana and having hate sex. The audience, largely filled with students from adjacent Ohio State University, seemed to relate.
This was yet another rock show that did not disappoint!
